Gastric Bypass, also known as “Roux-en-Y”, is the most common laparoscopic weight loss procedure performed worldwide. It has a proven track record from long-term studies proving its efficacy. Because of this, it is widely thought of as the Gold Standard of weight loss surgery and is recognized as the best surgical weight loss procedure. Being a laparoscopic procedure, it requires only a few small incisions in the abdomen, where a small camera and specialized instruments are inserted. This results in less pain after surgery, significantly fewer complications during recuperation, a shorter hospital stay and shorter general recovery period.

Holistic Living’s Gastric Bypass surgery’s cost is significantly lower than going overseas, as we aim to make the procedure affordable and accessible to all.

Stacy’s Story

How It Works

Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass causes weight loss by restricting the amount of food and reducing the absorption of the calories in the food you eat.

The stomach is divided into a small “pouch” in which food enters, and one large “remnant stomach” through which the food no longer passes. This “excluded” part of the stomach remains in the body and continues to produce helpful digestive juices, which meet the food further downstream. The upper, smaller “pouch” holds a smaller amount of food than before, and is connected directly to a portion of the small intestine, bypassing the larger part of the stomach created by the procedure.

The Gastric Bypass is recommended for BMI of 30 or greater with health complications (such as Diabetes, Heart Disease, Infertility, Stroke, etc.) or for morbidly obese with a BMI of 40 and above.

After The Procedure

Because this is a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure, the Gastric Bypass recovery simply requires 2 to 3 overnight hospital stays.

To ensure the client’s safety and sustainable weight loss success, we help you to develop a healthy lifestyle with healthy eating habits. Our Bariatric Surgeon, Dr. V. Shchukin will walk with you from your first consultation, monitor your progress throughout and address any questions or concerns you may have. Doctors at Holistic Living require monthly follow up visits to evaluate your health after surgery. We look forward to seeing you and your results!

After undergoing the Gastric Bypass, you will need to take some vitamins and minerals supplements to ensure sufficient nutrition and peak health.

The Effect

By having a small, normal-sized stomach, clients will eat smaller meals and consume fewer calories. Re-routing the intestine results in food spending less time in the digestive system leading to less absorption of fat and calories into the body. Most importantly, however, the procedure changes the gut hormones reducing hunger, promoting fullness, and reversing one of the main causes of Type 2 Diabetes in obese patients. It is for this reason that current research qualifies the Gastric Bypass as the best treatment for Type 2 Diabetes in obese patients.

On average, you can lose 70-80% of your excess body weight within the first year!
